Rota Design worked closely with the client in the design of a marine buoy. There is a requirement to provide suitable lifting facilities for initial location of the buoy and to meet subsequent maintenance requirements.
The finite element method was used to model the lifting devices in various sea conditions. Static and dynamic forces were considered.
Through these studies, the geometry and dimensions of the structural elements
were revised until areas of high stress were confidently within the specified safety factor.
The analysis provided the design engineer with verification of the design and our client with the confidence to proceed to manufacture of prototypes for testing within the arduous marine environment.
