At various stages of product development, Rota Design applied its expertise in the use of finite element analysis (FEA) to provide a basic risk assessment. FEA also provides the customer and design engineer alike with verification of critical structural elements.

The major advantage being that Rota Design is able to verify with confidence that a proposed design will perform to specification prior to prototyping, production of the tooling and thus prior to manufacture. FEA may be applied to many other materials and processes and is not confined to the rotational moulding process alone.

A digital model of the pallet and specified material parameters are loaded and analysed. Typical results provide an indication of areas where, under load, a potential failure may occur. The process also provides the design engineer with a positive indication where it may be possible to make material or process savings without compromising the integrity of the design or its function.
