The machine works by extruding ABS plastic layer by layer to build up a 3D model. The machine feeds the model and support material in filament form from their respective cassettes to the modeling head.

The head traverses in the 'X' and 'Y' axes extruding material onto a support platform thus re-creating the 3D CAD model in cross section. The ABS solidifies and the platform lowers ('Z' axis) where upon the next layer is added. The process continues until the 3D model is complete.

Rota Design has invested in the facility primarily to prove designs prior to manufacture, this providing all parties with an enhanced degree of confidence that the design is fit for purpose avoiding costly design errors.
